Canadian Cannabis Is Now Open For Business

Canadian Cannabis Is Now Open For Business

Canada passed a bill to legalize recreational cannabis in June of 2018, becoming the 2nd country to do so after Uruguay. At the time, Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced that recreational use would no longer violate criminal law as of October 17th, 2018.

Today was that day. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 the first legal recreational dispensaries opened their doors in Canada to long lines and cars honking in approval. Except in Quebec and Alberta where the legal age is 18, all those 19 and older are now allowed, under the law, to buy, use, possess, and grow recreational cannabis. They showed up in spades at Canadian dispensaries to buy recreational cannabis, legally, for the first time today.

This is a big step forward for cannabis legalization on the global stage.

It is important to remember that it IS still illegal to cross international borders with cannabis and you could face criminal charges if you try to do so. Unfortunately, this means that despite cannabis being legal in California and Canada, it is unlawful to travel from California to Canada or vice versa with cannabis.
