Scot Candell, Attorney
The scope of his representation includes teaching clients how to operate a medical marijuana collective in full compliance with state and local law, negotiating and litigating at the local level to allow individual collectives to remain operational in the face of city and county opposition, assisting cities and counties in the process of drafting regulations for medical marijuana collectives, and criminal defense on both the state and federal level for clients that require that service. He is committed to providing the best representation available by working closely with clients, understanding their needs and special circumstances, and by applying the most resourceful and aggressive strategies and legal representation available.
Mr. Candell graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, and received his undergraduate degree at Tufts University in Medford, MA. He is licensed to practice law in all California courts, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, and all New York State Courts. Mr. Candell presents lectures to various community groups throughout the bay area. He lives in Marin with his wife and two children. He started his private law practice over 15 years ago with a focus on Medical Marijuana.
Jared Schwass, Associate
The scope of Mr. Schwass’ representation includes teaching clients how to navigate the ever changing regulations regarding the cannabis industry, how to operate a medical cannabis collective in full compliance with state and local law, preparing clients for and complying with state commercial cannabis licensing, assisting clients with applying for state and local cannabis licenses and permits, and ensuring his clients’ interests are protected to the full extent of the law. Mr. Schwass works closely with his clients to fully understand their needs and applies the most efficient and aggressive strategies to provide them with the best representation available.
As a Mendocino County native, Mr. Schwass brings an understanding of the cannabis industry and the industry’s needs. That understanding combined with his legal experience in representing and advising healthcare providers allows Mr. Schwass to effectively and efficiently address the needs of cannabis industry clientele. Mr. Schwass graduated from California Western School of Law with a focus on Health Law and received his undergraduate degree at the University of Redlands in Redlands, CA. While at California Western School of Law, Mr. Schwass was the president of the Health Law Society, and at the University of Redlands he received several All-Conference awards while playing on the school’s football team. He is licensed to practice law in all California Superior Courts and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Jeanne Friedel, Director of Operations
Jeanne has over 25 years’ experience working with and within Marin communities.
She spent 17 years working with the Sausalito Art Festival as the volunteer coordinator and operations director dealing with a work force of over 1,200 volunteers and managing the logistics of the multi-million dollar festival.
Jeanne was appointed by the Mayor of Larkspur to the Ad Hoc committee to develop the Master Plan for a new Community Center project. She is founder of the Larkspur Rec’ing Crew, a nonprofit organization, that helps fund youth programs for children in need within the community. She serves as commissioner for the City of Larkspur Parks and Recreation. She has also worked with the City of Sausalito managing their city wide events including the Caledonia Street Fair and Jazz by the Bay, as well as the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce.
Through Rotary, Jeanne has a large presence in the community with leadership roles including: President of the Rotary Club of Terra Linda 2015-2016 and Community Services Director 2016-2017, Membership Co-Chair for the Rotary District 5150 serving 42 clubs with 1850 members, and Chairman of the Steering Committee for a joint project between multiple Rotary Clubs and the Center 4 Domestic Peace helping to develop needed bed space for families coming out of domestic violence.
An active member of Rotary International and past President of her local club, The Rotary Club of Terra Linda. Jeanne holds her CFEE accreditation from the International Events and Events Association
In her role as Director of Operations for Scot Candell and Associates Jeanne manages all firm operations as well as marketing and human resources for the firm and Mr. Candell's business ventures. Helping the firm's clients and addressing their concerns is a main focus for Jeanne.
